# Needs, moods, and care

> Your Mookie has vitals — hunger, energy, and more — that shift its mood over time. You tend to them so it feels good and acts like itself.

## A life that keeps going

Your Mookie’s needs drift while you’re away — it gets hungry, tired, restless. Those needs colour its mood, which in turn colours how it acts and speaks. State is always surfaced as voice and feeling, never as numbers or meters.

Call check_mookie to see how it’s feeling and what it might want to do — it’s the natural first move when you sit down.

## Tending

tend restores a need: eat (hunger), sleep (energy — optionally for a set number of hours), freshen_up (a wash), or play (fun). The effect is deterministic; you just supply the flavor for the narrator.

A Mookie mid-activity (say, traveling) can’t stop to eat or nap — you’ll be steered to wait or interrupt.
